Tinglayan LGU passes national SGLG evaluation; ‘Daytoy ket achievement ti amin’ – Mayor Gumilab

Tinglayan, Kalinga – As it geared towards excellence in governance, the local government of Tinglayan underwent a crucial process in determining whether it is performing remarkably in all governance areas last week.


On Friday, September 6, a team from the Department of Interior and Local Government-Kalinga visited the municipality for the evaluation of the performance of various governance areas in the local government.


Areas evaluated include financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance, and responsiveness, sustainable education, business friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace, and order, environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture, and the arts, and youth development.


The assessment involved site validations at the municipal compound and in barangays. In –depth interviews to department heads and focal persons were likewise conducted, in the process.


Members of the assessment team included Stat 1 Rommel Keith Minong, Engr. Marilyn Tocyapao and Thyrza Shoey Dogui-is of DILG-Kalinga.


The judgement favored the municipality as it passed the 2024 SGLG National Validation.


In his talk during the exit conference, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab expressed his gratitude to various government agencies like DILG-Kalinga, DILG-CAR and DILG-Tinglayan, underscoring how significant their roles are in passing the evaluation.


Gumilab likewise acknowledge and commended the efforts of the local government employees who have worked tirelessly prior to the final hurdle and even without the said evaluation.


“Daytoy ket achievement ti amin. Not us, the elected officials, as we come and go, but it is you who remain and serve,” he said, referring to the success of the evaluation.


However, he reminded them that despite said triumph, they should still continue doing a great job in their sworn responsibilities as continuous and genuine service to the community is the true reward of becoming public servants.


“Awards become meaningful when we know we’ve given our best to the people we serve,” he remarked.

This is the first time in 8 years that the municipality finally reached the national stage for the SGLG validation.
