Tinglayan PWDs could get P4K annual assistance if ordinance passed

Tinglayan, Kalinga—Four thousand pesos (P4,000.00) annually could be provided to Persons With Disability (PWDs) in Tinglayan with the plan of the officials to craft an ordinance to help ease their financial constraints.

The said agenda came up during the third quarter meeting of the Senior Citizen and PWD council on Tuesday, July 7, 2021, when they responded positively to the request of raising the birthday gift of senior citizens in the municipality from P500 to P2,000 pesos yearly which will take effect next year.

The recent development which involved the continuous increase in the cash assistance being given to elderlies was questioned by a member of the body, saying that a program necessary for the welfare of PWDs who cannot work and provide for themselves should also be given attention.

The concern, as recalled, was previously suggested by some elders during the municipal health board meeting in Barangay Dananao where they proposed to give more support for the PWDs.

With said recommendations from the public, Larae Lactao of the Municipal Information office said that the concerned council will be drafting a resolution requesting the Sangguniang Bayan to create an ordinance necessary for said pursuit.

When crafted, PWDs in Tinglayan municipality whose age range from one month old until 59 years old shall receive the P4, 000 cash assistance from the municipal LGU in which P1,000 will be given quarterly.

Based on the Municipal Social Welfare and Development’s data, there are 324 PWDs in the locality.

In connection with this, Angeline Ando of the MSWD office is encouraging all barangay officials in the 20 barangays of Tinglayan to verify their list of PWDs to be added to their office’s data.

Meantime, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab explained that the purpose of the program being pushed is to provide support to those who are in need particularly the PWDs for self-sustenance.
