Tinglayan readies for ‘Awong Chi Gangsa, Agtun Chi Banga’ with Bodong Festival

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Thorough preparation is now being done by the local government of Tinglayan for their participation in the ‘Awong Chi Gangsa, Agtun Chi Banga’, one of the most anticipated events in the 28th Kalinga Founding Anniversary and 4th Bodong Festival.


Debuted in 2014, ‘Awong Chi Gangsa’ translates to a call for a thousand gongs.

At said event, a thousand gongs are struck participated by thousand dancers dressed in native attires. This time, the event will include ‘banga’ or jars in their head.


Said event represents both the prosperous province and its current peace and order situation. The pot, meantime, is a symbol of Kalinga cultural hospitality.

Preparations for the event


For Tinglayan, one of the first municipalities oriented toward the event, they eye on sending a thousand participants thus urging the participation of the 20 barangays of the municipality.


According to Larae Lactao, a meeting was made in connection to the said activity, of which barangay LGUs were instructed to send gong players and dancers. A specific number was mandated but was not revealed by the tourism officer.

“Actually nu Wednesday, bigat ket ag-held manen ti LGU Tinglayan ti meeting together with barangay captains tapnu ma-finalize dagidiay participants for Awong Chi Gangsa ken ma-address nu anya man diay nakita da nga problems,” she relayed in an interview with GURU Press Cordillera.

Jars were also ordered by the local government unit while listing the names of those who have ready-to-borrow gongs were also prepared.


For other events, the tourism officer said there are already individuals assigned to take part.


The event will take place at the Kalinga Sports Complex on February 15, 2023.


As relayed, local government units in the province that will have the largest number of participants will receive incentives from the provincial government unit.
