Top critic of Tabuk City Mayor files COC, vows fight against corruption

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Atty. Errol Comafay, one of the top critics of the city mayor, filed his certificate of candidacy along with his supporters as a local legislator of the City on Friday, October 1, 2021, with his intent to fight for corruption which he believes is happening in the city at present.

In an interview, Comafay said there is a need to keep the City in check and a need for the people to not give up on believing that it is still possible to put a stop if not control blatant corruption that can happen in the government.

Comafay also added that he decided to run as a protest to the "pera-pera" politics, saying he shall not buy votes since that is where corruption begins.

Comafay, as recalled, was once charged with cyber libel, along with other individuals by City Mayor Darwin Estrañero, due to his vocal criticism during his interview with 98.5 iFM on the purchase of medical supplies by the city government claimed to be overpriced.

The cyber libel case was dismissed.

Top priority of Comafay

When given the chance to be selected as one of the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Comafay said that during his term, transactions of the local government shall be publicized to make it known for the people for them to guard it and to avoid possible corruption that can be made by any public official.

According to Comafay, as reported by the Vice-Mayor's Office, the present composition of SP-Tabuk is aware of the corruption happening but they never questioned the anomalies, while they should have been the primary ones to keep an eye on corruption issues in the city.

Other SP members may have fought for corruption, but none of them got the support of the public as they did not make noise on the issue.

"Kurang ti panaglaban da iti korapsyon ta saan da a kadwa ti umili. Nu ibutaktak da kuma kadagiti umili ti mapaspasamak nga corruption ket kadwa da dagiti tattao a manglaban iti daytoy a problema,” Comafay stated.

With this, he is now challenging the public to involve themselves in public issues and be informed on the corruption issues transpiring in the city.

"Saan nga umanay nga agbotos, maki-alam ken saan nga agbuteng ta masapul nga maikkat ti na-organisa nga korapsyon ken ti dadaulo na ta datayu ti nakakaasi,” he said.

When asked about his chosen mayoralty candidate, Comafay said he will pick someone who is anti-corruption.
