Top ranking rebel in Cagayan valley arrested

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A top-ranking New People’s Army believed to be responsible for the terroristic acts and extortion activities in Cagayan Valley was arrested the early morning of November 16, 5th Infantry Division reported.

Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley (KR-CV) Secretary identified as Gil Peralta, alias Elmo, who is also said to be a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Terrorist Group, has been charged with Arson and Murder.

Through a warrant of arrest, he was nabbed by the combined forces of police and military in Barangay Mariblo, Quezon City.

During his arrest, the authorities were also able to seize one M16 rifle, a Cal. 45 pistol, three anti-personnel mines, and a hand grenade.

Report from the 5ID cited that Peralta, being the secretary of the KR-CV, is the one behind the terroristic acts as well as extortion of the NPA in the region.

Other high-ranking cadres nabbed

On the same date, apart from their secretary, other executive committee members of the KR-CV have been arrested in Bulacan when the operatives served their respective arrest warrants.

Arrested were Irene Agcaoili, alias Ayang, KR-CV Finance Head; Lourdes Bulan, alias Simang, Executive Committee member of KR-CV; Roy Dela Cruz alias Bonel, Intel Officer; Arcaido Tangonan, alias Mariano G Ramos, former Squad Leader of the Central Front Committee and Natividad Santos y Manuel.

Confiscated during the said arrest include two Cal. 45 pistols, two anti-personnel mines, and two hand grenades.

KR-CV tried evading arrest

The 5th Infantry Division revealed that these high-ranking members of the KR-CV have left Cagayan Valley in an attempt to escape the intensified focused military and police operations against the communist terrorist group.

But they were tracked down through the collective efforts of the authorities.

Major General Laurence Mina, the Commander of the 5ID, stated that "the arrested high ranking CNTs are the very same people giving direction to the Regional Committee of Cagayan Valley. Their successful arrest will create a huge impact on their organization due to the leadership vacuum. This in effect will eventually lead to their collapse.”

Mina once again called on the remaining rebels in the mountains to lay down their arms and choose to live a peaceful life with their families.
