Baguio City, Philippines – Following the re-opening of leisure travel for fully vaccinated individuals in Baguio City, tourists continue to arrive, bringing relief to the city’s tourism industries, which were heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Baguio City Tourism Office, a limit of 2,000 tourists is allowed to enter the city in a day.

According to data released by Tourism Officer Alec Mapalo, a total of 1,916 tourists arrived on October 30, 1,943 on October 31, and 1,735 on November 1.

The decision to open the city’s tourism activities is a welcome development to local entrepreneurs since they are now given the opportunity to earn and cope after almost two years of financial difficulties due to the restrictions imposed to control the spread of COVID-19.

Tourism industries suffered more loss, aggravated by the onslaught of Typhoon ‘Maring.’

“Wala talaga, totally down yung business namin. Walang kita tapos dumating yung bagyo na last, lumubog yung mga bangka namin so ngayon nagsisimula kaming mag-repair. Hindi kami makapagawa kasi wala kaming pambili ng mga materyales kasi ngang walang kita,” Rose Bulayo, owner of boat rental, said in an interview with Regional News Group-Luzon.

“Ngayon, nagkaroon kami ng maraming tao, mga customers na sumakay sa mga boats so laking tuwa rin namin, at least bumabalik na yung normal,” Bulayo added.

Tourism Officer Mapalo stated that the office is strictly monitoring the tourists, especially their compliance with health protocols and quarantine travel passes (QTP).
