Tragic accident due to drunk driving: 34-yr-old man killed in motorcycle-tricycle collision in Santiago, Isabela

Santiago City, Isabela -  Drunk driving has been the cause of over 3,000 road crashes in the Philippines in the past two years, according to the PNP; the most recent one occurred in Santiago City, Isabela, on Sunday night, October 20.

 

The incident involves a motorcycle and a tricycle, colliding head on. The motorcycle rider, who was the casualty, was a 34-year-old construction worker, while a 31-year-old man was the driver of the tricycle. Their identities were not disclosed by the police.

 

Santiago PNP reported that the vehicles were running from opposite directions while traversing the road in Barangay Balintocatoc when the incident transpired.

 

It was described that the motorcycle rider allegedly veered into the tricycle lane, resulting in the collision.

 

The same report disclosed that both the rider and the driver were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

 

As a result of the collision, the two sustained severe injuries to various parts of their bodies. They were rushed to separate hospitals in the municipality by the responding medical team.

 

Unfortunately, the motorcycle rider succumbed to his injuries, while the tricycle driver survived and is now in a stable condition.

 

The tricycle driver will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property if the matter is not settled amicably.
