Tragic bus accident in Ilagan, Isabela: 1 killed, 18 injured

Ilagan, Isabela - A man died, while eighteen others were injured after a passenger bus hit a motorcycle and fell straight into a ravine in Ilagan, Isabela.


The incident transpired on the evening of Thursday, March 7, 2024. The involved bus was a Victory Liner, driven by Looney Andoy, a resident of Tuguegarao City.


Based on police reports, Andoy was traversing the road in Barangay San Juan on said day and was heading to Manila.


While on said road, he overtook a vehicle he was following causing the bus to collide with an oncoming motorcycle.


After crashing into the motorcycle, the bus fell into a ravine resulting in the injury of eighteen passengers.


The passengers and the motorcycle rider, identified as Roland Basog, a resident of Barangay Santa Catalina, Ilagan, were rushed to a hospital. According to police, the injured passengers are now in stable condition, but Basog did not survive.


Meanwhile, Andoy, the bus driver, surrendered to police on Saturday, March 9, after he left the scene of the incident due to a ‘life threat’.


To recall, a victory liner bus was also involved in a road accident in Tabuk City, Kalinga on November 12, last year that claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman and left her husband and two children injured.
