La Trinidad, Benguet - This year’s CARAA Meet, hosted by the province of Benguet, kicked off last week with an inspiring message from Governor Melchor Diclas, who urged the athletes to show respect to their opponents regardless of their home province or city.

The 2025 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association Meet officially opened on February 23 at Benguet Sports Complex in La Trinidad. The event brings together the top athletes from across the region, competing in various sports.

The competition serves as a platform for showcasing talent and skills, fostering camaraderie, and promoting healthy competition among the youth.

A total of 3,774 student-athletes from the six provinces of CAR and two cities battling for gold this year.

These players represent the Abra Mighty Weavers, Apayao Eagles, Baguio E-Lions, Ifugao Builders, Kalinga Bulls, Mountain Province Mabikas Mountaineers, Benguet Stringers, and the Tabuk City Coffee Roasters.

Governor Melchor Diclas, in his speech during the kick-off, encouraged the athletes to give their best and to not forget the spirit of sportsmanship, as the competition is not all about winning but also about fostering friendships among their fellow players.

“ Do your best and enjoy your sports events. Treat your opponents like brothers and sisters. Enjoy the Benguet Sports Complex,” he said.

The father of the province then praised the students’ hard work in representing their respective teams while reminding them that win or lose, they are all champions in the hearts of the people, their schools, and their families.

“To the CARAA delegates from the different provinces and cities, congratulations to everyone; you are all winners,” he reminded.

Taking place until February 28, winners at the event will represent CAR in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa, tentatively scheduled for May 24 to June 2, 2025, in Ilocos Norte.
