Trike driver in Naguilian, Isabela arrested after killing for 4,000 peso debt

Cauayan, Isabela - A tricycle driver in Barangay Quinalabasa, Naguilian, Isabela was arrested on August 10, 2022 after allegedly killing a 40-year old woman who lent him money.

The killing was reportedly carried out in a cornfield in said barangay.

The chief of Naguilian Police Station, PMaj Junneil Perez revealed through 98.5 iFM Cauayan that the suspect gave an Extrajudicial Confession following the commission of the crime.

PMaj Perez identified the suspect as Arnel Quicho, 44 and a resident in the same municipality as his victim.

Based on the initial investigation of the police, the tricycle driver allegedly borrowed P4,000.00 from his victim.

As related in the investigation, the victim left her home on August 8, 2022 to see her doctor at a clinic in Cauayan City. To get there, she hired the tricycle owned by the suspect.

Along the way, the victim was said to have reminded Quicho to pay his debt. The tricycle driver allegedly got irritated.

Quicho, according to the report, promised the victim he would pay his debt, taking her to a cornfield.

However, instead of giving the money, the suspect forcedly covered the mouth of the victim and slit her neck.

The police said around 11:30 in the evening of the same day, the victim’s husband reported to the police that his wife was missing.

The next day, police relayed that a lifeless body was found.

It was said that the victim sustained wounds on her neck, and stab wounds on the head and other parts of her body.

The police identified the casualty as Josie Bonifacio, 40, married, and a resident of Barangay Quirino, Naguilian, Isabela.

Based on the post mortem examination on Bonifacio’s body, she was stabbed more than 10 times.

The police said they found Quicho brought clothes which he used to change with after the incident.

He likewise took a bath in the river near the crime scene following the killing.

The killing appeared to be pre-meditated, said the police.

The suspect is now under custody of Naguilian, Police Station and is facing murder charges
