“True freedom goes beyond political independence”-Gov. Edduba on 125th Independence Day

Tabuk City, Kalinga – “We must acknowledge that true freedom goes beyond political independence, it extends to the eradication of oppression, inequality, and the abuse of power within our society.”

Kalinga Governor James Edduba underscored this as the country marks its 125th Independence Day on Monday, June 12, 2023.

On this day, he said, it is crucial to acknowledge the ongoing struggles that persist even in the face of hard-won liberation. These include ‘those stemming from our own doings and from the abusive actions of some individuals.’

Also, the governor recognized struggles arising ‘from within ourselves.’

Nevertheless, it should be with courage and determination that the community confronts such a tussle.

“Each one of us has a role to play in addressing these issues and fostering a society that upholds justice and fairness,” Edduba stressed in a statement.

He urged his constituents to embody the values of righteousness, discipline, and honesty in conquering adversities.

“By holding ourselves accountable and embracing personal growth, we contribute to a better future for ourselves and our fellow Ykalinga… Together, we can build a province that reflects the true essence of our freedom - a province where righteousness prevails, discipline thrives, and honesty perseveres,” he added as he called the community to be exemplars of good citizens.

Noting the theme, "Kalayaan, Kinabukasan at Kasaysayan," Edduba further paid tribute to the forebearers who sacrificed for the freedom the people are enjoying today.

The genuine unity of the notable people, he said, led them to achieve the battles in previous years.

In the same way, it is the concerted efforts of yKalingas that they were able to record the Guinness World Record for the Largest Gong Ensemble Dance composed of 3,440 male gong dancers, and the Largest Banga Dance with 4,681 banga dancers during the province’s “Bodong” and founding anniversary celebration in February 2023.

“The attainment of these world records is a testament to our exceptional abilities and unwavering spirit as Ykalinga people like the heroes of old,” remarked Edduba.
