Tuguegarao City, Cagayan — Tuguegarao remains under lockdown for 7 more days starting today, September 6, after the request to put the city under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine was declined.

The extension of ECQ in Tuguegarao was supposed to be lifted this September 5 and Mayor Jefferson Soriano earlier recommended for Governor Manuel Mamba to shift the city to MECQ status.

According to the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, the governor insisted and recommended to the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force extend the ECQ status in the city for another 14 days due to the high number of Covid-19 cases in the city and the number of Covid-19 related death.

In their deliberation and final decision, the RIATF approved to retain the ECQ status for just a week with the recommendation of granular lockdown to affected barangays after the citywide lockdown.

The lockdown will be lifted on September 12, 2021. Meantime, as of September 5, Tuguegarao has 1,113 Covid-19 active cases. Additionally, from September 1 to 5, the city has recorded 30 Covid-19 related death.
