Tulgao tribe has new Bodong holder for Tulgao-Danac peace pact

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Tulgao tribe in Nambaran, Tabuk City has a new holder for the Tulgao-Danac peace pact following the ‘Talikad’ from January 6-8, 2023.

Talikad is the process of passing the peace pact to a new holder.

Nambaran Punong Barangay Jimmy Suwagon relayed Tulgao and Danac in Abra had been tied through a Bodong since the 1960s. This year, they had to pass the Bodong to a new holder after the Tulgao tribe bearer, Francisco ‘Bakidan’ Dona-al passed away.

Through the process, Francisco’s son, Joel Dona-al officially became Tulgao’s holder of the Bodong they forged with Danac.

Balliti

Suwagon narrated that since Joel’s mother is sick, they first observed the Balliti on January 6. Balliti is visiting a sick member of a tribe whom they had made a Bodong with.

“Baket diay nanang da. Ugali gamin iti peace pact holder ket nu masakit diay peace pact holder, karkaru nu baket or lakay, ayaban da diay ka-peace pact da tapnu mapan da a kitaen diay ka-peace pact da,” Suwagon explained.

Revision of Pagta

It was on January 7 that Joel received the peace pact through a ceremony. It was also during this day that the members of the Tulgao and Danac revised their Pagta.

According to Suwagon, the Pagta made during the renewal of their Bodong in 1993 did not cover some aspects.

“Diay Pagta nga naaramid idi 1993, idi i-review mi adu iti kurang na, [isu nga] na-revise adda iti nanayunan ken adda iti nasukatan,” he relayed.

There were also cultural presentations on the second day.

Last Day

The Talikad has culminated through the finalization and reading of the revised Pagta. The visitors likewise received their tokens and cash which serve as the ‘Liray Chi Pochon’ before they went back to Abra.
