Two 10-year-old kids from Cagayan win gold in international Taekwondo Championship

Cagayan, Philippines – Two 10-year-old kids from Cagayan brought pride to the country after taking home four medals which include two gold medals in an international Taekwondo competition in Singapore on December 9 – 11, 2022.


Jhoren Raickiel Taquiga from Calamagui, Solana and Allen Josh Dayag from Ugac, Tuguegarao City joined the 8th Daedo/18th International Clubs Open Taekwondo Championships at Toa Payoh Sports Hall along with representatives from other countries like Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, Singapore, Vietnam and other athletes from the Philippines.

In the 3-day competition, Jhoren bagged the 1st place in Sparring under 59kg and 4th in the Jumping breaking. Allen, on the other hand, got the 1st spot in Sparring under 54kg and 3rd in the Jumping Breaking.


Coach Kyslev Ernest Guzman told Cagayan Provincial Information Office that part of their preparation for the competition is hard training and right diet. He conveyed that he chose Jhoren and Allen to compete internationally due to their potentials.


Guzman then advises the two kids to remain humble and to stay disciplined despite this huge accomplishment and many other opportunities coming their way.
