Tinglayan, Kalinga – Alongside the inauguration and turnover of the longest foot bridge in Tinglayan, two bridges that would connect Kalinga and Mt. Province were also inaugurated on Friday, November 25, 2022.

Said bridges are the Mabongis Bridge in Bugnay and Wallis Bridge in Centro Bangad. These are both located along Mountain Province Boundary - Calanan - Pinukpuk - Abbut Road.

The bridges assure safer and easier access to travelers from the nearby barangays, municipalities, as well as other provinces.

Further, said projects are also expected to pave the way for better livelihood, industry, and tourism in the place.

Tinglayan, as recalled, is the second most visited locality in the province by tourists this 2022, with the legendary ‘mambabatok’ being frequented not just by domestic tourists but by international travelers.

Mabongis bridge and Wallis Bridge

As the two bridges were already weakened due to the passage of time, the municipal local government requested funding for the replacement of said bridges.

The P19 million worth Mabongis bridge was then funded through the Department of Public Works and Highways 2022 General Approriation Act while Wallis bridge was allocated a fund of P9 million through the General Appropriation Act of 2021 for Regular Infrastructure projects.

Construction of Mabongis Bridge started in February 2022 and commenced on October 15, 2022.

For Wallis Bridge, it was started in February 2021 and was completed in March of this year.

Statement of Mayor Gumilab

In a statement, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab expressed his gratefulness to the solon of the province and DPWH for funding the two priority projects.

He underscored that with their continuous support of infrastructure developments in the municipality, Tinglayan is indeed continuing progress.

“Indeed, Tongrayan Umunno-unnoy is being achieved from time to time. Matatago nan partnership taku amin,” he stated.
