Lubuagan, Kalinga – After their reconciliation, the Uma and Tanglag tribes in Lubuagan are expected to restore their severed Bodong soon. This is according to Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus.
In an interview, Dickpus, who has been facilitating the settlement of the case since last year, recounted that the peace pact between Uma and Tanglag was severed sometime in 2015 due to a shooting incident.
She recalled that the victim from Uma was a former member of the New People’s Army, but decided to lay down his arms and surrender to the government. Due to his decision to leave the movement, a newly recruited NPA from Tanglag was tasked to shoot the victim.
“Dagidiay taga Tanglag isu iti inbaon da, barbaru da pay lang nga NPA, inbaon iti NPA isuda a mapan mang-mission idiay [taga Uma] isu nga pinaltugan da idiay Appas, naka motorcycle da,” Dickpus narrated, recalling that the victim was hospitalized for many days.
She added that the NPA took responsibility for the incident, explaining that the Tanglag tribe has nothing to do with the attack. However, the incident still affected both tribes, and the refusal to settle the case resulted in the severance of the peace pact between Tanglag and Uma.
Mayor Dickpus followed up on the Bodong of the two tribes until the case was finally settled on May 18, 2022.
“Sabali latta diay adda latta iti Bodong ket idi inayos tayon, pinakawan da met daytoy suspect, inacceptar met diay taga Uma diay areglo a naaramid,” she said.
Dickpus said that the next move will be the Singlip which is the restoration of the Bodong.
“Nu naikkat tapos maisubli, isu diay kunada nga Singlip ti Bodong. Diay dati nga adda, nadadael ken naawan, nu maisubli ket singlip kunada,” she said, adding that this phase includes the creation of the Pagta.
With Singlip, the side of the victim and the suspect shall be the ones to hold the Bodong.
“Nu mai-singlip, diay biktima ket bummiktima, isuda dapat iti mang-iggem iti Singlip tapnu kuma protectionan da, isakit da diay Bodong nga iggenan da. Isu dapat iti holder na diay, magapu iti pamilya, kabagyan dagitoy nadangran ken dinmangran,” the mayor explained.
While there were no reported injuries and hostilities between the two tribes within seven years, Dickpus asserted that the restoration of the Bodong is still very much important.
“Uray nu kunam a kasdiay nga awan iti madi nga intention iti biktima, adda latta diay bain a mapan ka idiay gapu idiay haan a na-settle a peace pact,” she said. The other peace pact severed which the mayor is currently working on is the Bodong between Mabongtot and Betwagan tribes.
