Underwater drone found in Calayan, Cagayan; link to recovered floating shabu, possible

Calayan, Cagayan – A submersible drone which is about 12-foot-long was recovered by a fisherman on Monday, August 19, along the shoreline of Magsidel, Calayan, Cagayan.

While swimming underwater during the early hours of said date, the fisherman stumbled upon the object. Out of curiosity, he pulled the object at the sea side.

It was disclosed by police that the object had no markings and when found, its sensor or optical lens was submerged underwater while its rear part could be seen on the surface. Its propeller, was no longer working, police added.

While this is similar to that of the object found in 2022, police believed the object might be linked with the floating shabu found last month and on different dates this month in the waters of Cagayan.

Underwater drones could be used to transport contrabands as they are less visible.

At present, authorities do not have any lead about where the object came from since there were no visible markings.

It was already turned over to the Philippine Coast Guard – Cagayan who are now conducting investigation to identify the owners and from which country it originated.
