Tinglayan, Kalinga – Signifying their desire to make the election period safe, peaceful, and orderly, aspirants for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in Tinglayan joined the unity walk and covenant signing held Monday, Oct. 16.

Leading the event were COMELEC Officer James Pekas, MLGOO IV Franchita Gayudan, personnel of the Philippine National Police Tinglayan, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Armed Forces of the Philippines, and representatives from the religious and elderly sectors.

The unity walk’s route is from Saint Theresita High School up to the municipal gym in Tinglayan.

As part of the event, the candidates were educated on the 2023 BSKE election guidelines on gun ban, kontra-bigay, revenue memorandum circular 97-2023, or tax compliance reminders for all candidates, among others.

Following the lectures, candidates and officials signed the Commitment Pledge for a "Secure, Accurate, Free, and Fair Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election 2023.”

With the successful conduct of the unity walk and the signing of the peace covenant, the local government unit of Tinglayan anticipates a peaceful and fair election for the village and youth polls slated for Oct. 30, 2023.

To recall, coinciding with the event is the conduct of the Nationwide Multi-Sectoral Peace Assembly for BSKE 2023 hosted by the Kalinga Provincial Police Office.

The activity was held to remind all participating government agencies and other stakeholders to carry out their duties in a way that will uphold democracy while ensuring a fair and honest electoral process.
