Up to P5,000 fine to be imposed on violators of no smoking, vaping zone in Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Up to P5,000 fine and five-day community service shall be imposed on individuals who will be caught smoking and vaping outside designated areas in Kalinga.

 

The newly approved and signed Provincial Ordinance No. 2024 – 011 also known as the “Comprehensive Smoke and Vape Free Ordinance of the Province of Kalinga” was crafted as a measure to safeguard public health, safety, and well-being of residents in Kalinga by keeping them from the adverse effects of smoking and vaping.


Said ordinance also aims to ‘reduce potential exposure to tobacco marketing and advertising’ and ‘restrict accessibility to tobacco products and provide a supportive and conducive environment for users to quit’.

 

Among the prohibited acts under the ordinance include smoking, vaping, and using tobacco products in an enclosed or partially enclosed public places, workplaces, public conveyances, and other public areas.

 

The ordinance emphasized that there will be designated vaping and smoking areas which are described to be an outdoor space approved by the city or the municipal health officer. 

 

Likewise, smoking, vaping, and using tobacco products in the presence of minors are not allowed.

 

Violations will lead to a fine of P2,000 or 2-day community service for first offense; P4,000 or 4-day community service for second offense; and P5,000 or 5-day community service for the third offense.
