Various brands of fertilizers in Cagayan Valley found underweight

Cagayan, Philippines – The Fertilizer and Pesticides Authority of Cagayan Valley reported that various brands of fertilizers being sold in the Region 2 are underweight.

This was found after the agency conducted inspections at different warehouses in the region on September 16, 2022, following complaints from farmers that they allegedly purchased underweight fertilizers.

The inspection was led by FPA Officer-In-Charge Executive Director and Regional Manager Leonardo Bangad, according to Radyo Pilipinas-Tuguegarao.

Based on the complaints of farmers, bought fertilizers weigh around 48.5 to 49 kg per sack.

The standard weight of one sack of fertilizer should be 50 kg, according to FPA.

On the other hand, FPA found out that other brands of fertilizers weights 50.5 kg above to the standard weight.

With said inspection, FPA reminded farmers to request test weighing at dealer’s stores when purchasing fertilizers to avoid being scammed.

In relation to this, FPA reported no fake fertilizers or pesticides being sold in the stores they inspected.

The agency said they informed the dealers about their findings and reminded them to avoid selling unregistered products in the market.

Meantime, in this cropping season, FPA urged different local government units in the region to strengthen coordination in educating farmers on the proper and safe use of pesticides and the practice of appropriate use of fertilizers in crop production.
