Baguio City, Philippines – A preventive suspension for the 26 units of Victory Liner was released on Friday, Jan.13 by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) following a road accident in La Union that left three individuals dead.

The bus units operating from Cubao to Baguio City via Dau, Tarlac and Urdaneta are suspended for 30 days.

The LTFRB ordered the drivers to undergo a seminar on road safety.

Meanwhile, operators of the bus company are obliged to provide financial assistance to the victims of the accident that occurred along the Aspiras Highway on the third day of January.

Reports stated a burst tire could have caused the Victory Liner bus to crash into a tree in Pugo, La Union, killing a conductor and two passengers.

While the incident may look like it was unintentional, it could have been still avoided had the bus involved undergone a thorough roadworthiness inspection, according to LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III.

“This should be a lesson learned for all public utility vehicles. The mindset of bus operators, drivers, and conductors should always be about road safety whenever they go out and serve the commuting public, otherwise, they have no business operating in the public transportation sector,” added Guadiz.

Victory Liner was compelled by said board to submit a roadworthiness certificate and schedule of maintenance service for its suspended 26 units.

Additionally, the bus company shall explain why its Certificate of Public Convenience should not be suspended, canceled, or revoked during a hearing set on January 24.
