Barangay captain dies in Piat, Cagayan shooting incident


Piat, Cagayan – An in-depth investigation and a hot pursuit operation is being pursued by Cagayan police after a barangay captain in Piat, Cagayan was shot dead evening of Monday, January 23.

The victim, along with his wife came from their farm at Sitio Malasat, Sto. Domingo when the firing incident happened, according to police.


As the victim was driving home, the suspect suddenly appeared and shot them at the scene of accident, near an irrigation in the area.


The suspect did not end there as he also went to the driver's side and shot the victim twice.

To escape death, the wife pretended to be dead and only moved when the gunman fled using a motorcycle, heading to an unknown direction.


The incident was reported by a concerned citizen to authorities but when they responded, the wife already ferried his husband to a nearby hospital.


Unfortunately, the victim Richard Biraquit, 57, Punong Barangay of Sto. Domingo, Piat, known for being a multi-awarded barangay official, was declared dead on arrival at the health facility.


Meantime, PNP Piat contacted the Scene of the Crime Operatives for the processing of the crime scene.


Recovered at the crime scene are 7 bullets from a caliber 45 pistol which are now up for ballistic examination.
