Vintage bomb recovered at junk shop in Peñablanca, Cagayan

Peñablanca, Cagayan – While conducting an inventory of various metals sold at his junk shop, a businessman in Camasi, Peñablanca, discovered an explosive on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Alarmed with what he found, he immediately notified police in the area.

Before heading to the junk shop, Peñablanca police informed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), being the concerned unit on explosives.

Once there, police confirmed the explosive found was an 81mm cartridge vintage bomb.

The bomb was already ferried by EOD/K9 Unit 2 to their office for proper disposition.

With the discovery of said bomb, Police Major Harold Ocfemia of PNP Peñablanca urged the public to immediately notify concerned authorities if they happened to unearth or find similar explosives. He added that they should not dismantle it for their safety.

According to him, the recovered high-explosive bomb in said junk shop is dangerous since it could explode if heated or run over by any heavy object.

For the record, it was not the first time that a vintage bomb was recovered in the municipality since a vintage bomb was also discovered near the Pinacanauan River in Callao, Peñablanca in 2020.
