Wanted Person in Tanudan, Kalinga surrenders after almost 8 years in hiding

Tanudan, Kalinga – After hiding for nearly eight years, the remaining wanted person in Tanudan has recently surrendered himself to authorities.

The 59-year-old rape suspect turned himself in to the police on September 27, 2022 after authorities proceeded to Barangay Poblacion, Tanudan to serve his standing arrest warrant for Statutory Rape in relation to Section 5 of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

According to Tanudan Chief of Police Manuel Sabado, the voluntary surrender of the suspect was made possible through the negotiation done by the elders and barangay officials of Poblacion.

Background of the case

The 59-year-old suspect was accused of sexually abusing a minor sometime in November 2014.

Based on the report of the police, the victim revealed that the incident happened when she and the suspect’s daughter went to the latter’s house. Back then, the suspect was said to have ordered the two to massage his back and legs and gave them P20.00 as compensation.

On the evening, while the victim was sleeping at the suspect’s house, the suspect allegedly locked all the doors then sexually abused the victim.

The minor was said to have tried to resist by kicking and punching the suspect but she was not able to fight him off.

‘Ti Taga Tanudan ket peace loving’

Police Captain Sabado stressed that the arrest of the suspect showed that the people in Tanudan do not tolerate any crime and that they are peace loving people.

“Nu makitam iti mode of arrest na dayta ket voluntary surrender, makitam talaga iti taga Tanudan nga peace loving da nga tattao, haan da kayat iti kakasdiay nga paspasamak,” he said.

With the arrest of the remaining wanted person in the Municipality of Tanudan, Sabado added that this indicates that the authorities make sure that those who violate the law will get arrested no matter how long they will hide.
