Weapons cache recovered in Rizal, Cagayan after former rebel tip-off


Rizal, Cagayan - A revelation from a former rebel led to the recovery of an arms cache in Rizal, Cagayan, on Wednesday, February 14, 2023.

 

The Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) - Cagayan stated that they immediately conducted a search operation after an ex-member of the New People's Army (NPA) informed them about a firearms cache buried in the mountainous part of the aforementioned area.

 

The operation resulted in the recovery of various high-caliber firearms, along with their magazines and ammunition in Barangay Masi, Rizal, on the said day.

 

These include 1 unit of 5.56 Daewoo K3 Rifle; 2 units of 5.56 Colt Rifle w/ M203 Grenade Launcher; 3 units of 5.56 Colt Rifle; 3 units of 5.56 Elisco Rifle; 14 Launcher long magazines; 4 M16 rifle short magazines; 1 caliber .45 Armscor pistol with a magazine loaded with 32 bullets; and 1 Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

 

The recovered guns were presented to Governor Manuel Mamba by the Cagayan Police Provincial Office (CPPO), Provincial Intelligence Unit, Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), and 17th Infantry Battalion Philippine Army on Thursday, February 15.

 

Regarding the remaining members of terrorist groups in the province, police officials continue to encourage them to return to society and live a normal life.
