‘Win P50,000 grant,’ join ‘Young Farmers Challenge’ 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The application for the second batch of ‘Young Farmers Challenge’ program is now open for those who are ready to participate and win a start-up capital or financial grant of up to P50,000, according to the Office of the Provincial Agricultural Services of Kalinga (OPAS-Kalinga).


The said office, through its media page, announced that the submission of applications starts today, September 05 and is set to end on October 14, 2022.

Young Farmers Challenge-Focal Person Harold Jhon Marcelino, in an interview, relayed that the program intends to encourage young farmers to engage in farming by providing them opportunities to grow their business, especially those under the agri-fisheries sector.


“It is a competitive financial grant assistance program of the DA for the youth who will engage in new agri-fisheries enterprises. The program aims to encourage the youth to engage in farming by providing access to resources and opportunities to address the growing problem of aging farmers,” he explained.


Said program, Marcelino added, will likewise provide a cash prize of P50,000 to the winners as capital for a start-up or as added fund to create more value to their products.


“I encourage them to participate in the program kasi ito po ay napakalaking oportunidad po para sa mga youth to start their own business that would help them in the future and for food security,” added the agriculturist.

Requirements for applicants to join


Applicants must be 18-30 years old who are willing to engage in new agri-fisheries enterprises.


Additionally, they need to pass a Business Model Canvas (BMC), one valid ID indicating the date of birth, barangay certification, copy of certification of agriculture and fishery training, and 2x2 photo with a white background.


The BMC must be submitted in a hard and soft copy. Applicants should submit both copies to OPAS-Kalinga. Selected participants for the challenge will later be informed.
