‘Wishing tree’ set up at Tabuk City Jail to grant PDLs’ simple Christmas wishes

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A tree adorned with notes containing the Christmas wishes of the Persons Deprived of Liberty in the province was set up at Tabuk City District Jail on November 7, 2022.

District Jail Warden Chief Inspector John Wayland Lapon relayed to Guru Press Cordillera that not all inmates at the jail have a family to visit them regularly. Some, he added, do not even have anyone to see them.

For this reason, they thought about officially launching a ‘wishing tree’ for the 175 individuals currently incarcerated at the district jail this Yuletide season. He explained that this initiative aims to get the wishes, have them written on colored paper and have them hung in the tree.

Through the tree, the public can read the requests of the inmates and anyone who wants to be a Santa Clause can grant them.

“Tapnu maikkan met iti morale dagitoy da balod tayo ta dagiti daduma ngay ket awan iti bisita da nga ag-iyeg piman kadagitoy gamit da wennu anya man dita nga kasapulan da,” he expressed.

Lapon said that most of the wishes written by the PDLs are hygiene kits, grocery items, and other basic needs.

Two days after they launched the initiative, some have already granted the wishes of 5 PDLs. The items were given to inmates this November 11.

Meantime, the District Jail Warden encourages anyone with extra resources to make the PDLs even happier this Christmas by granting their wishes. This, he said, will also make the inmates feel that they are not outcasts but part of the community.

“Dagitoy da kuma mayat iti panagpuspuso na nga kakailyan nga taga Kalinga, nga nu adda iti sobra nga resources tayo ket mabalin tayo met nga itulong kadagiti adda ditoy pagbaludan tapnu maparagsak tayo met dagitoy da PDL tayo nga adda ditoy uneg,” he appealed.

To those who wish to grant the requests of the PDLs, you may send a message to Tabuk District Jail Official Facebook account, Tabuk DJail Kalinga, or you may contact SJO2 Jeafe Agagon-Busway Dulliyao at 09292301606.
