Ifugao, Philippines – The “Wonder Boy” of Lagawe, Ifugao keeps the WBA Asia Super Bantamweight belt after he succeeded in his campaign to defend his title over the weekend.

Carl Jammes "Wonder Boy" Martin defeated Tanzania’s pride Charles Tondo via unanimous decision on July 30, 2022 at the SM City San Lazaro in Manila.

The undefeated 23-year-old boxer now has an improved record of 20 wins, 16 of which by knockout.

Tondo, on the other hand, dropped with 12 wins, 6 losses, and two draws.

Friendship outside the boxing ring

The boxing result did not change the friendship formed between Martin and Tondo.

As seen in his Facebook live, Martin went to visit his “new friend” with a pizza.

“Sa taas ng ring lang magkalaban friends kami sa labas ng ring,” expressed Martin.

In a separate post, he shared a photo of him along with Tondo.

“Sobrang saya pag may bago kang kaibigan,” he captioned.

“I really accept my new friend Carl JAMMES MARTIN,” commented Tondo.

Martin, the new “Manny Pacquiao”

Dubbed as the new “Manny Pacquiao,” Martin is considered by experts as the future star of Philippine boxing.

In the world rankings, the young boxer is currently at No. 11 in the WBA, No. 13 in the International Boxing Federation, No. 14 in the World Boxing Organization, and No. 19 in the World Boxing Council.

He acknowledged that he still has a lot to improve and vowed to continue working hard to become one of the best.

“Salamat po Ama, sa aking team at sa lahat po ng inyong suporta. Marami pa po akong kulang pangakong pag-iigihan ko pa po,” Martin conveyed.
