Baguio City, Philippines – Kalinga lawmaker Allen Jesse Mangaoang during the 35th Cordillera Day celebration on Friday July 15, 2022 stressed the importance of unity and respect among leaders in the region, saying “Each of us can serve our interest better when we work together as equals for the larger good of all Cordillerans.”

Cordilleran leaders have been urged to push for autonomy.

The region has had two failed attempts during a plebiscite to vote for self-governance.

According to the Kalinga lawmaker, achieving the autonomy sought by the ancestors and incumbent leaders is no longer elusive in the current administration as the country’s President himself understands the significance of such campaign.

The fight for regional autonomy, however, will only be successful if Cordillerans work in unity and solidarity.

Mangaoang then urged the public to uphold unity and rise with one voice to pursue aspirations for regional autonomy.

“I am sure that our people will not just be main engine of autonomy drive but they will become a dynamic force for meaningful development for the region,” congressman conveyed.

Mangaoang earlier underscored that with the establishment of Cordillera Autonomous government, the ancestral domains will be defended and shall advance the collective interest within a truly Philippine democratic society.

Representatives of all the provinces in Cordillera agreed to refile the autonomy bill when the 19th Congress resume.

Contrary to the two previous attempts for a plebiscite which were dominated by no votes, the latest effort is expected to be successful with most leaders expressing support for its passage.
