yDangtalan dominates Pasil Slow Food Fest’s cultural, cooking competitions



Pasil, Kalinga – The barangay local government unit of Dangtalan dominated this year’s Slow Food Fest cultural and cooking competitions which was held recently.


Said contested activities include the ‘binnayuan’ or pounding of rice, food sampling, Earth Market, the highest sale of products, and cultural competition.


The competition encourages the Pasilian’s participation in the revival of its rich traditional food system, celebrate its local products, and at the same time help them gain income by selling their agricultural produce.


As celebrations in Kalinga would not be considered complete without the sounds of gongs and native dances, the local government of Pasil also included in the festival the presentation of cultural performances.


All participating barangays also installed their own booths where they displayed and sold their local produce.


As a result of the activity, Dangtalan community was adjudged the overall winner topping six contested activities which include ‘binnayuan, food sampling - adult and elderly category, cultural, earth market, and the highest sale.


With them gaining the top prizes, Dangtalan received an overall amount of P30,000. The first prize winners in each competition received P5,000 from Pasil LGU.


Bagtayan, on the other hand, topped the food sampling – youth category.

As announced, taking the 2nd spot in the cultural competition is Barangay Dalupa, Cagaluan in the Earth Market, Dangtalan for the food sampling-youth category, Pugong for the food sampling-adult category, Dalupa and Bagtayan for the food sampling -elderly, Balinciagao for the highest sale and Malucsad for the Binnayuan.

The second-place winners received P3,000 each from the LGU.


For the third placers, they received P2,000 each.


These were Barangays Cagaluan and Guina-ang for Binnayuan, Pugong for food sampling-elderly category; Bagtayan for Food sampling-adult category, Cagaluan for the highest saleDalupa gor food sampling-youth category, Magsilay for the cultural competition and the Earth Market contest.


Next year, said activities are expected to be conducted anew, and the festival is being considered by the local government unit to be conducted twice.
