yKalinga domestic helper found dead in Hong Kong laid to rest

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The domestic helper from Kalinga who was found dead in Hong Kong was laid to rest in Tabuk City on Tuesday, Oct. 02, 2023.

Georgia Walis Gonayon’s body was discovered along Stanley Beach on Sept. 15, about 3 days after her employers reported her supposed disappearance.

Gonayon, 49, reportedly left her residence on Pok Fu Lam Road on Sept. 12, 2023, and never returned since then. Police authorities in Hong Kong looked for her until her belongings and her body were found on the beach.

Her remains were transported to the Philippines on Sept. 29 and arrived in Tabuk on Sept. 30.

Family Welfare Officer Rhea Alos said the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Kalinga will be extending death and burial assistance to the family.

The family, on the other hand, doesn’t believe in the initial claims that Gonayon died of suicide since they can’t think of any reasons and problems that would cause her to take her own life. They added that she worked abroad for nearly two decades.

The cause of her death is still under investigation.
