yKalinga farmers get replacement seeds, machineries to recover from losses


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Farmers in Kalinga province badly hit by Super Typhoon ‘Egay’ in July receive replacement seeds and farm machineries to recover losses.


The typhoon swept away 1,862,989 metric tons of crops of 43,906 farmers and fisherfolk in Cordillera.

To expedite assistance for heavily-affected yKalinga farmers and their families, Governor James Edubba ordered the immediate provision of assistance.


During the Sept. 11 flag-raising ceremony, Edduba, along with Provincial Agriculturist Engineer Domingo Bakilan and other provincial officials, turned over assorted seeds and machineries to the municipal and city agriculturists who shall distribute such to the recipients chosen based on submitted reports, according to Provincial Information Officer Dionica Legasi.


Among the aid provided by the agriculture department include 2,334 packets of flowering pechay, containing 5 grams each, 2,334 packets of okra with 7 grams each, 2,334 packets of bush beans with 5 grams each, and 2,334 packets of pole or string beans with 12 grams each.

Also given were 2,332 packets of eggplant with 3 grams each, 1,750 packets of cucumber with a gram each, 1,416 packets of bush sitao with 15 grams each, 1,416 packets of bitter gourd with 3 grams each, and 1,416 packets of patola with 2 grams each.


Further, farmers’ associations in the province were provided with machineries such as 1 unit of Power Sprayer and 1 unit of Mini Chainsaw for QRS Farm – Bayanihan Project; 1 unit of Coffee Pulper and 1 unit of Moisture Meter for Ichoglak Farmers Irrigators Association; 1 unit of Coffee Pulper for Calagango People’s Association Inc.; and Moisture Meter for yGuilayon Farmers Livelihood Association.
