Tabuk City, Kalinga – Filipino boy group with an yKalinga member will be opening this year’s International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup at the Philippine Arena on August 25, 2023.

Alamat, a P-pop group that sings in 7 regional dialects, is composed of 6 members – Taneo from Kalinga, Tomas from Albay, Alas from Davao City, Jao from Pampanga, Mo from Zambales, and R-Ji from Eastern Samar.

Said group debuted with their self-written single ‘kbye’ on February 14, 2021. The song which depicts the point of view of a person who was ghosted was sung in 7 languages. Its verses were a combination of Tagalog, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Bicolano, Waray-Waray, Hiligaynon, and Visayan dialects.

‘Kbye’ reached #2 on the Billboard Next Big Sound chart.

With this, who would be one of the performers best to open the FIBA World Cup, an international basketball competition and FIBA’s flagship other than the Alamat?

The group will be performing at the opening ceremony of the game on Friday.

The 2023 FIBA World Cup, meanwhile, will be participated by 32 men's national teams.
