yKalinga soldier dies in Lanao Del Sur clash

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Kalinga mourns the death of its promising young soldier.

Private Edwin D. Waggawag, 24, from Bultot, Balawag, Tabuk City made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country he loved. He was killed while another trooper was injured in a clash in Rogero village, Bubong, Lanao Del Sur Monday, March 13, 2023.

The First Special Forces Battalion of the Philippine Army reported the government troops were then conducting combat operations in the said area when they chanced upon around 30 members of the Platoon Huawei, Sub-Regional Committee 5 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).

After a 40-minute firefight, rebels flew in the southeast direction.

The clash left Waggawag dead and Sergeant Rolan S. Calvez wounded.

Casualties suffered by the rebel side are still undetermined.

The remains of Waggawag were brought to Cagayan de Oro and will soon be ferried home.
