Young Tabukeño cyclists ready to pedal in tomorrow’s City 1st Bike Fest contest



Tabuk City, Kalinga – More than a hundred young Tabukeños have registered and are ready to participate in the First Bike Festival in the city this Saturday, November 27.


Said activity is in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 1052 series of 2020, which declared every 4th Sunday of November as the “National Bicycle Day”.


According to the Sangguniang Kabataan Tabuk City Federation, there are 152 individuals who registered for the fun bike; 9 in the girls' category; and 45 in the expert category, which was open to all.


Additionally, some individuals ages 40 and above have also registered and will be joining the Bike Festival under the veteran category.


Tree Planting


Assembly time will be at 4 o’clock in the morning at the city hall. The route will start at the City Hall to Bakras – Maledda – Matoknang – Mansanita – Old Bulo Road – Malalao viewpoint.


Once the bikers arrived at the Malalao viewpoint, there will be a tree planting activity. The seedlings will be provided by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Prizes


For the top 10 finishers of the fun bike, they will be given P1,000 each. As for the girls' category, P3,000 will be awarded for the first place; P2,000 for the second; P1,500 for the third; P1,000 for the fourth; and P500 for the fifth place.


Also, P5,000 will be given to the first place under the expert category; P4,000 for the second; P3,000 for third; P2,000 for fourth place; and P1,000 for the 5th to 10th place.


Lastly, for the veterans, P3,000 will be handed to the first place; P2,000 for the second; 1,500 for third; 1,000 for fourth; and P500 for fifth place.

‘We want the youth to enjoy’


SK Tabuk City Federation President, Juan Tomas Duyan conveyed that they wanted the youth to enjoy this time after being stuck inside their houses due to the pandemic. He said that the Bike Festival was finally allowed to be conducted after restrictions have been loosened in the province because of the declining number of Covid-19 cases.


“In line with the Linggo ng Kabataan, we would like the youth to enjoy this activity, and at the same time, it’s an opportunity to show concern and help the environment,” he said, adding that the activity is also in support to the bikers in Tabuk City.

“As years pass by, dagituy tu naimula dakkel ti maitulong na para ti residents of Tabuk and also for the bikers who will visit the place a mabalin da pag stop over an. It’s a win-win event for everyone,” Duyan further conveyed.


Meantime, the SK Federation reminds participants that they will not be allowed to join if they haven’t registered or if they have no helmet and safety gear.


For those below 18 years, they are required to present their parent’s consent before joining the event.
