Youth for Peace-CAR President Gallema tells youngsters can 'be part of the solution' to problems

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Clarky Aquino Gallema, the President of Youth For Peace Philippines Cordillera Youth Brigade (YFPPCYB), encouraged fellow youth to participate in local government programs and ‘contribute to be a part of the solution not to be a part of the problem.’


Gallema of Tabuk City made the call through the Network Briefing News aired this January 11 through Presidential Communications (Government of the Philippines).


Through Gallema’s leadership, the youth organization initiated various activities to help the frontliners and vulnerable sectors in the province and the region at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.


Free face masks and face shields


When the pandemic hits Kalinga in March 2021, the youth group observed the lack of face mask and face shield supplies.


According to Gallema, they adapted a method released by an international Facebook page showing steps on how to create recycled face masks and face shields.


With the help of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the organization was able to produce and later distribute over 4,500 recycled face shields to the different municipalities in the province while 3,000 face masks to frontliners.

Community Pantry


In addition, YFPPCYB initiated a community Pantry in the province, having been observed that the community is in dire need of food supplies like vegetables and instant foods.


Expressing his support to the youth, Governor Ferdinand Tubban, along with other government officials and agencies, donated goods and cash that were used to buy necessities.


Piso mo, Tulong Mo


Through the ‘Piso Mo, Tulong Mo’ launched also by the youth group, the vulnerable sectors specifically the persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens of the ‘17 poorest of the poor barangays in Tabuk City and other municipalities were given medicines and other supplies.’


Tree planting and Clean up drive


Further, the group had been conducting tree planting and clean-up drive to reduce disasters such as soil erosion and flood. This, Gallema said, is to likewise to ‘save the environment.’

The activity was made possible with the seedlings that the group requested from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).


Exemplary Youth Leader and Advocate of the Year 2021


These programs and activities resulted in the recognition of Gallema as Exemplary Youth Leader and Advocate of the Year during the 4th Asia Pacific Luminare Awards 2021 held on June 26, 2021, at Okada Manila.


Call for youth


As a responsible and empowered youth, YFPPCYB President called for the youth not to be discouraged by the distractions, instead focus on their improvement so as to help others who are in need.


“Let us, youths, find our voice to inspire and use it for good and help others to find theirs. It will always be your choice of what you will become,” Gallema highlighted.
