yTanudan combat medic tops Medical Service Course

Tanudan, Kalinga – An yTanudan combat medic who was deployed in Mindanao recently topped her class in Medical Service Non-Commissioned Officer Basic Course of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Corporal Ling-an Malawis of Upper Lubo, Tanudan graduated her 3-month medical service course on December 9, 2022 in Capas, Tarlac.

Ling-an told Guru Press Cordillera that it was her parents and desire to be successful that motivated her to go beyond her limits and perform well in her class. She relayed that she followed the rules inside the camp and she studied extensively amidst body pain due to rigid exercises.

She further recalled that even after lights were turned off, she would use a flashlight to read and go over her notes in order to make sure she would ace their exams. She added that there are times they would have 4-5 tests in a day.

“Every day for 3 months, I only have 3 to 5 hours sleep because of reviewing. After TAPS [Termination of Activities Prior to Sleep] all lights should be switched off. In order for me to scan my notes, I use flashlight,” she narrated.

On December 9, Ling-an earned the fruit of her persistence and hard work as she graduated top 1 of their class.

Help counter insurgency

Ling-an took a medical technology course in college, but she decided to enter the military service to fulfill her dream of serving the country and helping the government counter insurgency.

She wanted to utilize her interest in the medical field to assist soldiers who are going into battle to serve and protect the country. This aspiration was the reason she didn’t give up even she failed to enter AFP in her first two attempts.

“I applied 3 times before I was accepted as a candidate soldier in the Army. I didn't stop until I got in. I always wanted to join the army because I feel drawn in serving our country and help our government counter insurgency,” she said.

Now that she finished her Medical Service Non-Commissioned Officer Basic Course, Ling-an vowed to apply her newly acquired knowledge and skills at her unit, 11th Infantry Alakdan Division in Sulu.
