yTanudans urged to sustain, boost coffee production

Updated: Jul 4, 2023

Tanudan, Kalinga – In his keynote message during the 8th Kape Festival and 60th Founding Anniversary of Tanudan, National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) Secretary Lope Santos III urged residents to sustain and boost their coffee production.

The town is among the top coffee producers in Kalinga. The Asiw Farm in Pangol was recognized in 2019 as top 5 in Best Robusta Coffee tilt of the Philippine Coffee Quality Competition.

A decline in said production, however, was observed in previous years. To address the matter, the municipal government unit collected soil samples to determine possible nutrient deficiencies. The result of which is yet to be released.

For his part, Santos recommended the establishment of other coffee processing facilities and quality improvement for higher market profitability.

Likewise, he shared their commission’s more intensive programs in poverty reduction.

“Bumababa na po kami sa mga munisipyo to help them prepare or help them facilitate or prepare their national anti-poverty reduction action plan,” said the secretary.

“Mas malayo, mas gusto naming puntahan. Mas mahirap, gusto naming puntahan. Mas liblib, gusto naming puntahan sapagkat doon namin nasasalamin ang tunay na kalagayan ng ating bansa at ating mga kababayan,” he added.

Santos, along with Partido Federal ng Pilipinas – Cordillera, handed over vitamins and stuffed toys to the people of Tanudan through Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag who in turn expressed gratitude for the former’s support for the municipality.
